They say they won't prosecute for illegal guns unless linked to crimes. How about anything else illegal they might find?

how to amaze a JW
by ninja input 2 cards in your pocket you have pre-written....one says...."new light"....the other says ..."where else can we go?
".......approach a jw...... put them on the spot with a few pointed questions......when they give their usual responses....i.e "new light" and "show me something better and i'll go there"....pull out the appropriate cards and they will think you are a prophet....or even better.....realise they are in a cult spouting programmed responses.....he he....ninja

Where would they be without those two concepts? I hear them over and over again from my jw family. They are definately thought stopping techniques. Not sure writing them on cards would impress them though.

Why did Death not stop as soon as the RANSOM was paid?
by jwfacts interry's recent thread about god's love made me start wondering the above question.
normally a ransom is done as a swap, the payment is made on exchange.
2000 years ago jesus made payment by dieing.

FHN,
I don't believe the earth is a proving ground. I was just stating what most nominal religions believe, in contrast to the jws. I actually like the beliefs of Universalism, but I still have this nagging question about the allowance of suffering by a loving God. We can't blame it all on man.

Education Bias And Favortism Within Witness Ranks
by The Rapster inlet me just say from the beginning i am not a bitter ex jehovah's witness.
i am simply a kid from back in the 70's - 80's who was completely enmeshed in it, leaving in 1984 after a sham marriage rushed by social and peer pressure within a congregation.
it took two years of a horrible personal relationship to accept that for 20 years i was misled.

Welcome Rapster,
I know of young ones that got associate degrees in computers to help them get chosen for Bethel. It would work, though they would often not allow them to use their skills at Bethel for some time. They would have to take a "lowly" job first to prove their humility.
Judah Ben Schroeder is a good example of the favoritism you noticed. There are others too that they send to college. Very much a double standard. They need a lot of lawyers these days. I am sure they are willing to pay for their education.
I am sorry that a lot of bright young ones were prevented from reaching their full potential. While still a jw, I encouraged all my children to get college educations and they all did. Glad you're not bitter and glad you are free to choose your own path.

I think most people have asked themselves this question. Mainstream Christianity believes the earth is a proving ground for humans. Paul states that a person must die first to receive a resurrection, the resurrection being the life that the ransom price bought.
The jws have created a whole class of people for whom they say the Bible was not written. That makes the ransom look like a failure because they believe some will never die, but receive everlasting life on earth. Then the question arises, why the holdup?
As to the further questions of the permission of suffering for so long and why the earth is used as a proving ground to begin with, I have found no satisfying answers.

It is shameful that they continue to cause the deaths of innocent victims. She didn't really choose to die, she was sacrificed by the WBTS so they can continue to say they made no mistake on the blood issue. They do not abstain from blood and how they can sleep at night I am not sure.
Her little babies will never know their mother now and the husband is only 24. The mess that they call the blood policy is much more likely to kill women because of the inherent risks involved in childbirth.

Jehovah's Witnesses can celebrate Christmas now!
by sacolton in... birthdays too!.
well, not yet, but if the governing body decides that it's okay to celebrate christmas and birthdays .... how do you suppose the typical jw would feel ... especially those who lived their whole life being told to not celebrate and.
wishing they could?.

They quit celebrating holidays and birthdays when they were told to and they would likewise start again if told it was "new light".

There is a risk with all medical procedures. I am surprised that a diagnosis of bacterial meningitis would not rule out the donating of organs. I hope everyone was properly informed before giving consent.
Sounds like an unfortunate situation.

Does anybody actually believe in the Global Warming swiz?
by The Nothing Man inobviously by my post title you can gather that i don't, but thats not to say i do not agree with lowering pollution in whichever way we can.
but on the flip side, just another money grabbing ploy by the government?
the uk government is making a big thing about it through their mouthpiece on earth, the bbc.

I believe in climate change, but there is way too much political nonsense involved in "global warming". It does seem like we are controlled by fear in one way or another. I am just too tired to be afraid of everything anymore.

We are driving less and consolidating necessary trips. Preparing our meals at home rather than eating out makes a big difference too.
I am afraid things are going to get quite a bit tighter before it is all over. I hope everyone remembers those who have less because they can't absorb the constant increases in food and gas.
